Locks and Accessories

Locks and Accessories are security solutions which when implemented, the place becomes secure. A lock is a fastening device. It is a mechanical or electronic device that is accessed by a physical object like a key, fingerprint, RFID card, security token etc. or by supplying secret information like password or by a combination of them.

Locks and Accessories are categorized as:-

  • Electromagnetic Locks
  • Smart Locks

Electromagnetic Locks:-

An electromagnetic lock is a device that consists of an electromagnet and an armature plate. Mainly, there are two types of electric locking devices, “fail-safe” or “fail secure”. A Fail-Secure locking device remains locked when power is lost while Fail-Safe locking devices get unlocked when power supply is disrupted. The electromagnet portion of the lock is attached to the door frame and a mating armature plate is attached to the door. The two components come in contact when the door is closed.

Single door Electromagnetic locks are available in both 600 lbs. and 1200 lbs.  A “fail-safe” magnetic lock needs the power to remain locked and is not suitable for high-security purposes because the lock is disabled when power supply disrupted. This drawback can be avoided to some extent by adding a magnetic bond sensor to the lock and by using a power supply which has a battery backup option. By doing this it is made possible to implement some of the specialized higher security applications. Electromagnetic locks are usually implemented at places where fire safety applications are involved like emergency exit doors as they have no moving parts. This minimizes fail ratio and is less than other kinds of electric locks.

Smart Locks:-

A Smart Locks and Accessories is an electromechanical lock designed to perform locking and unlocking operations on a door. These operations are performed when an authorised device gives instructions to the lock by using wireless protocol and a cryptographic key. It monitors access and also sends alerts so to remain updated with different events and also about machine status.

Smart locks use a similar mechanism as of traditional method i.e. it needs two main parts to work. ‘The lock and the key.’ In these smart locks, keys which are used are smart or special keys, not physical keys. It wirelessly performs the authentication needed to unlock the door.

Smart Locks provide facility to users to grant access to a third party by using the virtual key. This key is shared with the recipient’s mail address. After receiving this key, the recipient is able to unlock the Smart Lock during the time which is set and specified previously by the sender.
